Dear Future Brislington

Imagine you’ve been contacted by someone from the year 2124. They ask you how you imagine Brislington in 100 years time?

Imagine you’ve travelled to the year 2124 and are chatting with someone who lives on Wick Road, what would you tell them about an average day today?

You are invited to take part in an exploratory project about Brislington and its residents! As we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the George Weare Braikenridge Collection and 100 years since the production of a series of postcards of the area, we want to reflect on the community’s past and hear from you.

Join artist Katie, in contributing to creating a digital time capsule of postcard messages to future generations in Brislington.

How to take part:

(if you are happy for your words to be shared online and to be part of the local archive)

Step 1. Choose one or both prompts:

“How do you imagine Brislington in 100 years?” i.e. How does it look, feel and sound? What is there to do? How do you get around?

“What makes Brislington today?” i.e. What does your daily routine look like? What do you do, and how do you get around? Who do you interact with? What does it look, feel and sound like?

Step 2. Take a look at Katie’s Brislington Heritage Guide for inspiration and to learn more here.

Step 3. From here, click this link to record your message, starting with either “Dear Future Brislington in the future I see…” or, “Dear Future Brislington, today I…” (the link will direct you to a What’sApp Community Chat).

What’s next?

Your answers will be collected and archived for the capsule, you will be able to listen to them once recorded here, or on Dear Future Brislington Soundcloud here.

Meet Katie and chat to her in person about your answers and reflections on 30 November, at St Anne’s Winter Market between 10am–5pm.

This project, produced by MA Curating student Katie Deegan, has been developed through her 12 month placement at Bricks 2024.
