The footnotes of Bristol’s distant and recent history are littered with schemes for roads, bridges, railways, buildings and things which for one reason or another (usually money) never got built. There are even more structures which did get built, but in very different (usually cheaper) forms to the original plans.
Historian and journalist Eugene Byrne, author of Unbuilt Bristol (Redcliffe Press, 2013) takes a look at just some of the proposals from the last 250 years, from the perfectly sensible to the completely insane.
