About this event:
Each session in this year-long series is thoughtfully co-designed by members of the community, ensuring that the events reflect the diverse cultures, voices, and lived experiences of those involved. These sessions are more than just gatherings — they are opportunities to build connection, celebrate heritage, and create a sense of shared belonging.
To shape the very first session, six women from the St Anne’s Group met in April to decide on the theme. They chose to centre the event around Eid, with a particular focus on the Hajj pilgrimage — one of the most sacred annual practices for Muslims around the world. The group wanted to bring the spirit of this festival to life, not only for those who observe it, but for the wider community as an invitation to learn, share, and celebrate together.
During this session, community members will:
Share a feast of food, contributed by participants
Take part in creative, family-friendly activities
Explore the spiritual and cultural significance of wells, water, and pilgrimage — key themes in Islam and other global traditions
Join a story-sharing circle, where people can reflect on the meaning of pilgrimage and sacred water in their own cultures, faiths, or family histories
The session also connects with our own local heritage, highlighting the story of medieval Catholic pilgrimage to the holy well and chapel of St Anne’s in the Woods.
These sessions are designed to be inclusive, nourishing spaces — celebrations of culture, connection, and community. Whether through food, creativity, learning a new skill or taking a day trip away; each event will be a chance to come together, honour our differences, and discover the values we share.
Come and enjoy being in community — all are welcome.
Thanks to support from Bricks and the Bristol Community Recovery Fund, the group is now able to expand its reach, strengthen community resilience, and create welcoming, creative spaces for more people. The new funding also allows for indoor sessions during colder months — ensuring connection and belonging continue year-round.
