Jo Barker

Jo (she her) is one half of Black Bark Films, a female led documentary production company that evokes authentic and meaningful conversation by working collaboratively with our clients.

We cover nearly all aspects of the film making process from pre-production to filming to post production. Topics range from food and farming activism, community engagement, youth empowerment, gender politics and providing a platform for marginalised voices. We have a range of skills including, working with vulnerable groups and young people, facilitating workshops around filmmaking, participatory filmmaking, collaborating with performance artists in theatre settings, specialising in food and farming systems, social justice and community based projects.

From January 2021 we have both been facilitators and lead mentors for the BFI Film Academy Bristol delivering a NCFE accreditation with the Watershed, Bristol. We also mentor young filmmakers through Screenology and the BFI Film Academy SouthWest.

At Black Bark Films we utilise a trauma informed approach to our work. We have completed the Gold Certificate of Achievement with Thrive London and Nicola Lester demonstrating a Commitment to Trauma Informed Practice.

I’m based in the co-working space in the top of the building, so pop up for a chat if you have any ideas for collaborations!
