Gill Simmons

Gill Simmons

Gill Simmons (she/her) is a working class theatre maker and community artist.

She co-runs the company Brave Bold Drama which makes award-winning theatre for families and for people living with dementia, and specialises in community art projects made for and with working class communities.

Gill has been devising and touring work to professional venues since 2015. She is also a sound designer and composer, and has written music for Kilter Theatre and Knapsack Productions as well as creating the sounds and songs for all of Brave Bold Drama’s shows.

In addition to theatre, Brave Bold Drama has a broad portfolio of community art projects, including co-created sound walks, sensory stories for care homes and creative writing projects. 

Gill is an experienced creative educator, having formerly taught drama at secondary level for 13 years before becoming a freelance artist. She continues this vein of her work primarily through the delivery of Arts Award courses in schools. Brave Bold Drama has been awarded Trinity Champion Status for their successful and innovative delivery of creative arts courses for young people.

Gill has an MA in Drama and Theatre Studies from Royal Holloway, University of London and a PGCE and BA from Birmingham University.
