Amanda is a Bristol based conceptual visual artist who works with a range of media including textiles, sculpture, installation and social engagement.
Her creative practice is informed by her previous career in the health and social care sector, and she continues to be fascinated by how our attitudes and behaviour are influenced by our physical, social, and psychological environments.
Her work uses materials from a variety of sources to explore and develop ideas about issues that are important to her and common to us all. This often involves altering found and personal objects, changing their focus from the practical to the aesthetic, whilst asking us to consider the complexities of contemporary society and the impact that is has on us.
Previous projects have explored how women and girls feel about ageing, how to place value on what we discard in our throw away culture and our relationship with the food that we eat.
Much of her work involves working in collaboration with others as she believes that art can be a powerful tool to promote discussion and help develop a sense of community.
