Brought to life by the Community Exhibition Collective, make your mark in our evolving installation that celebrates the local community and your connection to this area. Together let’s celebrate the creativity and diversity of the place we reside/call home.
This collective community exhibition is all about you and your connection/journey to this area. Together, let’s celebrate the connection, creativity and diversity of the local community.
Think of an offering that helps capture your life here. Whether you are new to the area or you have lived here all of your life, this installation is about honouring these various roads that have led people to this community.
In an act of generosity, leave your offering and help create a web of our stories together and further conversation.
You don’t need to think of yourself as an artist, you can bring anything you could comfortably carry on a journey (maximum size: approx. 30cm x 30cm). This could include:
Objects / Artworks / Crafts / Poems / Photographs / Stories
Don’t want to bring something from home? Create an offering at our creation stations or at one of our workshops.
7th August 6-9pm- Opening Ceremony:
We invite you to come and fill the space with your offerings to help build the installation.
8th-13th August 10-6pm – During the week, the space will be open to explore and you will be able add offerings.
13th August 6-9pm- Closing Ceremony:
Join us in celebrating what we have collectively created. We will also come together and dismantle the installation by taking away an offering, either yours or someone else’s.
Don’t want someone else to take your offering? We will place a tag on your item to make sure you can take it home.
Offerings should a maximum size of 30cmx30cm
All offerings will be added to a digital archive.
**PLEASE NOTE: whilst we will try our best to look after your offerings, we cannot promise that they won’t be damaged or lost. **
This project is inspired by the histories of travel and movement to this area and the gatherings, sentimentality and rituals surrounding it.
Wells and springs have long been sacred sites, initially from Pagan culture and more recently within Christianity. St Annes Well has a rich history of people journeying to it through the surrounding woodland from all over the UK to visit it and the now destroyed Chapel of St Anne, even Kings and Queens!
The leaving of offerings at pilgrimage sites has inspired us to capture the stories of the journeys we have all taken to arrive here.
For example, ‘clootie trees’ or ‘rag trees’ can be traced back to paganism and early christianity where travelers would dip fabric into the holy well and tie it on the trees nearby for good health and recovery.
We want to capture the feeling of a centuries old place like St Annes Well/ Woods within this exhibition.
The Community Exhibition Collective (CEC) is a new collective created by BRICKS at St Anne’s House to help make decisions about this project. This project is in short, is about collaborative curation- we want to create annual art projects which are run by the community, for the community.
The aim is that each summer, there will be different themes/focus/values, decided by the CEC.
