SUMMARY:Friendly Neighbourhood Film Club: In The Best Interests of Children
DESCRIPTION:Friendly Neighbourhood Film Club and Reverie Cineclub present a family-friendly screening of IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE CHILDREN (1977)\, the groundbreaking documentary by Elizabeth Stevens\, Cathy Zheutlin and Frances Reid following lesbian mothers fighting for the right to custody of their children. \nRarely screened for many years\, this remarkable and underseen documentary offers an intimate portrait of eight families. Giving equal space to mothers and their children\, the film captures their experiences of family\, upbringing and queer parenthood with warmth and raw honesty. Originally produced to educate family court judges\, it has since become an important document of LGBTQ+ family history and feminist filmmaking. \nMade at a time when lesbian mothers routinely lost custody of their children because of their sexuality\, the film documents the legal and social challenges these families faced while centering their experiences of love and community. Through candid interviews and snapshots of everyday life\, the film reveals both the realities of discrimination\, and the strength\, dignity and joy of queer families.\nWe chose this film because of the care with which it approaches its subjects. While some laws and societal attitudes have changed since the film was made\, LGBTQ+ people continue to face barriers and public debate around family life and parenthood. IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE CHILDREN remains a timely reminder of why these stories matter. \nAfter the screening\, there will be space to stay\, chat and reflect together over tea and coffee. Whether you’re discovering the film for the first time or revisiting this landmark of queer cinema\, everyone is welcome.

SUMMARY:Climate Cafe
DESCRIPTION:With the recent heatwaves many local people have been feeling the impacts of climate change on their everyday life. Come together with neighbours to reflect and share feelings about climate change in a caring and considerate space. \nQuestions about the event can be emailed to: futuremancy@gmail.com \nNot sure what a Climate Cafe is? We liked this quick explainer from the Climate Psychology Alliance of North America: https://www.climatepsychology.us/climate-cafes/. \nThis is a space that is designed for us to reflect on our feelings about the changing climate\, which can often be difficult to access. As such\, you don’t have to do anything\, and you won’t be expected to sign up to any action or activity\, unless that feels supportive to you. You can just listen. No-one will be giving advice\, and no emotional response is ‘wrong’. We are not trying to minimise\, change or ‘look on the bright side’ of any reaction you might have. We are expressing these feelings together. \n

SUMMARY:Free to Move Massage
DESCRIPTION:Relax\, Reconnect & Recover\n\n\nI work with busy professionals managing lots of responsibilities who experience ongoing stress and exhaustion and carry tension in their back\, neck\, and shoulders. \nThrough my massage therapy\, I help them find relief from stiff and aching muscles and an overworked mind\, so that they can properly unwind\, relax and recharge. \nThe result: feeling calm\, looser\, clear-headed\, and re-energised—so they can move through their daily lives with greater ease once again. \n  \nEach massage begins with a consultation to help plan our session around what you’d like support with. We’ll explore the background to what might be contributing to what you’re experiencing so I can create a massage session that brings about the improvement to your physical\, mental and emotional wellbeing: e.g. release long-held tension\, adjust posture\, support chronic pain and illness\, and help regulate and ease emotional and psychological stress. \nMy approach can be drawn from these treatment styles*: \n  \n* Nourishing holistic massage to relax your being\, free yourself from any tension or stress and create space in mind and body to help breathe deeply and find clarity; \n  \n* Focused deep tissue\, mobilising and pressure point treatment that works with fascia to relieve a specific area of pain from muscle tension\, spasm and tightness or help relieve and mobilise stiff joints to improve pain-free movement; \n  \n* Somatic- embodied mind\, emotional bodywork therapy: working with a trauma-informed approach to help anchor mind and body in safety and connection. Learn to befriend\, map and regulate your nervous system and harness this deeper intelligence to help us guide the sessions towards what it is you need most right now. \n  \nOur first session will include a full consultation of around 10 minutes. \n

SUMMARY:Vinyasa Flow Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Vinyasa Flow Yoga – 6-7pm Every Monday at St.Anne’s House (in the Mill Room).\n \nWe begin nearly every class with seated meditation and breathwork to help us ground down and land into the Yoga practice. We then gradually warm up and mobilise the whole body to help prepare it for a series of breath led movement sequences that help build strength\, flexibility and stability (all whilst being playful and mindful along the way). Ultimately\, this is a moving meditation and a chance to step out of the chaos of everyday life and enjoy an hour to be present\, and enjoy some nourishing and explorative movement in a supportive environment.\n\nI aim to make my classes as inclusive and accessible as possible\, no matter what ‘level’ or experience of Yoga. I love to encourage people to find their own flow with their practice and there’s never any judgement if people want to add more or leave out certain movements within class.  It’s a really friendly group and I always try to create an uplifting environment in which to practice (with some good tunes playing and some lovely smelling oils diffusing 🙂\n \nAll classes can be booked here.\n\n\n\nIf you have any questions or queries at all\, please do feel free to email me via: lucyrazzmassageandyoga@gmail.com\n\n \nI can’t express enough how wonderful Lucy is and how peaceful and energising the classes are. Lucy creates a safe\, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend!  – Helen

– Helen
