SUMMARY:Yoga Foundations — 6-Week Beginners Course (September–October)
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to build your yoga foundation in this 6-week course that will leave you feeling centered and strong. \n\n\n\nYoga Foundations — 6-Week Beginners Course\n(formerly Yoga for Beginners at Yogasara) \n📍 St Anne’s House\, BS4\n🗓 Wednesdays\, 6.00–7.00pm\n🌿 9 September – 14 October \nWhat this course is about\nThis 6-week course offers a gentle\, supportive introduction to yoga. We’ll explore the four core elements of practice: \n• Breathwork\, to calm and steady the nervous system\n• Meditation\, simple practices for presence and perspective\n• Asana (movement)\, building strength\, steadiness and mobility\n• Yoga philosophy\, practical ideas you can take into everyday life \nYou don’t need any experience\, and you don’t need to be flexible. This isn’t about achieving shapes\, it’s about learning how to work with your body\, your breath and your attention in a way that actually supports real life. \nHow the course is structured\, and why\nThis course runs several times a year\, by design. \nWe learn together over six weeks\, then there is space between courses to integrate. Time to practise at home\, attend regular classes with new understanding\, and notice what changes when you live with the practices rather than rushing on to the next thing. \nThis is how learning really sticks. \nWhen we repeat a practice\, pause\, and then return to it\, the brain lays down stronger neural pathways. Things that felt abstract start to make sense in the body. You hear familiar instructions differently. You move and breathe from a more informed\, embodied place. \nEach time you return\, you’re not starting again\, you’re building on lived experience. \nSaturday morning workshops\, between courses\nIn the spaces between the 6-week courses\, I also offer Saturday morning workshops for those who’d like to go a little deeper. \nThese sessions explore the physical practice in more detail\, including: \n• Standing postures\n• Warrior I\, II\, III and IV\n• Balance postures and stability \nThey’re designed to deepen understanding\, build confidence\, and support you to feel more at home in open or mixed-level classes. You can attend them alongside the course\, or return to them later as a refresher. \nCourse dates\n9 September – 14 October \nWhy St Anne’s House?\n• Free on-site parking\, including accessible spaces\n• Ground-floor studio with step-free access\n• Bristol Community Sauna and cold plunge on site\n• A vibrant community hub with café and creative spaces \nWhat to bring\nWear comfortable clothes you can move in.\nBring a yoga mat and any props you have\, plus a blanket and pillow for relaxation.\nMats are available to borrow if needed. \nAbout Katie\nI’m a senior yoga teacher with over 1\,500 hours of training\, and a Family Constellations Facilitator. My teaching is supportive\, down-to-earth and practical. \nFor me\, yoga isn’t about becoming more flexible\, it’s about building capacity\, steadiness and perspective\, so life feels clearer\, lighter and more workable.

SUMMARY:Screening and Q&A: Black Bark Films Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Join us for for an engaging evening exploring the work of award-winning female-led production company Black Bark Films\, with a rare chance to hear from the makers. \nFormed by St Anne’s House resident Jo Barker and Holly Black\, Black Bark Films create sensitive and collaboratively driven documentaries that specialise in themes of social change. \nThe showcase focuses on relationships with land\, labour\, and community in the wake of challenges like climate change and Brexit. \nOne Acre (5mins) \nThe art of letting go of control in the face of adversity is explored by young new entrant farmer Liv\, as she reflects on her experience of farming; from climate change\, to community\, to remaining hopeful when much is at stake. Commissioned by North Devon Moving Image as part of Down on the Farm. Directed by Jo Barker\, Holly Black and Dee Butterly. \n  \nIn Our Hands (68 mins) \nThe award-winning feature documentary was seen globally at over 400 community screenings and shown in the Houses of Parliament. In Our Hands tells the story behind the blood\, sweat and tears of the farmers who are outgrowing the industrial food system in the wake of Brexit. At the heart of all change lies a story and In Our Hands is the story of a new kind of farm\, a new kind of food and a new kind of society. Made in collaboration with The Landworkers’ Alliance and directed by Jo Barker. \n  \nThe Land That Holds Us (12 mins) \nA deeply moving short documentary that follows four women forging lives in small-scale organic farming across the Sussex Weald and rural Mid-Wales. Through intimate interviews and beautifully observed footage from working market gardens\, the film explores their relationships with land\, labour\, and community\, while revealing the structural barriers they must navigate to build a future in farming. Made in collaboration with Rachael Durrant for the University of Sussex and directed by Rachael Durrant\, Holly Black and Jo Barker. \n  \nDoors: 6:30pm / Start: 7:00pm

SUMMARY:Yoga Foundations — 6-Week Beginners Course (November–December)
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to build your yoga foundation in this 6-week course that will leave you feeling centered and strong. \n\n\n\nYoga Foundations — 6-Week Beginners Course\n(formerly Yoga for Beginners at Yogasara) \n📍 St Anne’s House\, BS4\n🗓 Wednesdays\, 6.00–7.00pm\n🌿 11 November – 16 December \nWhat this course is about\nThis 6-week course offers a gentle\, supportive introduction to yoga. \nCourse dates\n11 November – 16 December \nWhy St Anne’s House?\n• Free on-site parking\, including accessible spaces\n• Ground-floor studio with step-free access\n• Bristol Community Sauna and cold plunge on site\n• A vibrant community hub with café and creative spaces \nWhat to bring\nWear comfortable clothes you can move in.\nBring a yoga mat and any props you have\, plus a blanket and pillow for relaxation.\nMats are available to borrow if needed.

SUMMARY:Talk and Q&A: Bedminster's Tobacco Women with Helen Thomas
DESCRIPTION:For around 100 years the skylines of Bedminster and Ashton were dominated by the red brick buildings of Wills and other tobacco firms. Once a major part of Bristol’s industrial and civic heritage\, the tobacco factories have all gone now\, some demolished and some transformed into new ventures. But they\, and the people who worked in them\, are still central to the vibrant communities within the city. \nBedminster’s Tobacco Women offers a glimpse into what life was like for workers in the tobacco factories\, drawing on stories told by 23 local people. Their experiences cover almost 50 years and every kind of job. A testament to all those who worked for Will\, but especially to the thousands of local women whose voices deserve to be heard. \nBrought to St Anne’s House with the support of BGAS150. \nDoors: 6:30pm\, Start: 7pm
